Public Seminar: What is Wellbeing in Developing Countries?

The WeD Research Group studies International Development using a wellbeing approach. WeD looks at how people's values, needs and quality of life are constructed and influenced looking at four developing countries, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Thailand and Peru. The group argues that the concept of wellbeing provides new and innovative insights into how we are to understand and then create policy to deal with the challenges of poverty and development. This theme will be introduced by Allister McGregor, WeD director. James Copestake will discuss the “Dreams and nightmares” of the poor in Peru and Joe Devine will explore the relationship between democracy and wellbing in Bangladesh.
